An avid griller and lover of the outdoors, this Clarkson Valley client tasked us with creating an outdoor space that was both functional and fun.
Though the client used the existing patio on an almost daily basis, the area was in poor shape. The older brick patio was deteriorating, and the screen porch had rotted to the point of being nonfunctional. In addition, the client wasn’t 100% certain on the look they were after.
The first step was finding a way for the client to convey to us the look they wanted. We recommended they utilize the Ideabooks section on Houzz.com to find inspiration and form preliminary thoughts for the space. The clients absolutely loved this and became heavy users of the site, using it as a tool to define the type of space they wanted.
From a building standpoint, we had to support the existing screen porch’s roof structure so that we could repurpose it for the new patio (while still maintaining clearances for building the patio underneath). In addition, we structurally reframed the existing porch roof to be supported by less columns. This allowed us to open up the area and truly optimize the space for years of outdoor grilling and fun.
