Kitchen Design and Bidding Process

Building a Tradition of Quality

With Hamtil Construction LLC, the process of obtaining a kitchen bid from us starts with the initial consultation meeting.  In a first meeting, we can discuss your vision for your remodeled kitchen.  Many customers want to know what is possible, such as “can this wall be removed” or “can we add a window here”.  We can provide feedback to if your dream kitchen can become a reality and what is involved to make that happen.  In many cases, we can provide ballpark pricing in the first meeting to let you know what your project might cost to complete.

The next step is usually an in home visit from one of our kitchen designers that we work with.  In this meeting, we will again discuss what you are looking for in your new kitchen and we will also measure the kitchen to start the design process.  It is helpful at this time to know of any specific requests you may have such as “I need a large drawer near the dishwasher” or “I want a trash can inside a cabinet”.  Pictures of styles or ideas that you may have seen in a magazine, online, or on our website are also helpful at this point so we can see what you like.

The next step is designing the proposed kitchen.  Our designer will prepare hand drawn or computer drafted drawings of your new kitchen.  They will meet with you in their showroom to show you the proposed design and the cabinetry products that they offer.  The design can be modified if needed after this meeting.  Sometimes several meetings are needed until the design is revised to a plan you are satisfied with.  Once we have the design, we will move on to bidding your project.

We believe that it is important to come up with a proposed design first so that we can price up exactly what it will cost to complete the kitchen that you desire.  After the design is complete, the bidding process involves more visits to your home.  In most cases, we must bring our licensed plumber and licensed electrician to your home to evaluate your existing systems and determine what it will take to complete the proposed floorplan.  In most cases, current code requirements will require substantial upgrades to plumbing and electrical systems.  The bidding process may also require you to visit some of our material vendors, such as our countertop supplier, to view their products and narrow down the desired finish selections.  Again, this is mainly so we can provide you with an accurate cost for your project.

The final step is that we will meet with you to review our written proposal and answer any questions you may have.  We will provide you with a clear and written contract and any items that we do not include will be made clear as well.  For example, frequently our customers furnish their own appliances since they can obtain the same pricing that we can at a contractor pricing levels.  To proceed forward from this point, we require that a contract be signed and a deposit payment be paid.

This entire design and bidding process can take anywhere from 1-2 months to complete.  The speed at which it is done depends on your availability of time to devote to the process and our current bidding load.  Through this extended process, you will be able to get to know our team better and see the level of communication that we use.  Our attention to detail should also become apparent during this process as well.  The decision of a contractor should be based on many factors besides price alone.  You will most likely be making a significant investment with your project and you should feel that your contractor and their team is right for you.  Upon request, we can provide many references from past customers to attest that we can be a good fit for your project.  Please review our kitchen portfolio and our testimonials if you have the time!
