EPA Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule |

Building a Tradition of Quality |
|
Common renovation activities like sanding, cutting, and demolition can create hazardous lead dust and chips by disturbing lead-based paint, which can be harmful to adults and children. To protect against this risk, on April 22, 2008, EPA issued a rule requiring the use of lead-safe practices and other actions aimed at preventing lead poisoning. Under the rule, beginning April 22, 2010, companies performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.
Exposure to lead dust and chips can be harmful to both homeowners and workers. The steps taken to control this exposure are relatively simple and Hamtil Construction LLC can fully handle this task.
As required by the rule, Hamtil Construction LLC is a certified firm and we complete work using lead-safe practices. We have several employees on staff who are certified renovators as required by this rule. These certified renovators have been trained in lead safe work practices and will oversee the work for your project.
You may ask yourself “why should I be concerned about this new rule”, and the answer to that is simple. If the contractor you hire to complete your project is not certified, you are most likely putting the health of your family at risk. The contractor would face very large fines from the EPA if not certified. In addition, the property owner could face very large fines too. Health risk is the number one concern here though, and you obviously cannot put a price on that.
Not every pre-1978 property will contain lead paint or stains, but our firm can also handle the testing of surfaces to determine if lead is present.
